Primary and Secondary Research Designs

Primary sources includes original individual research studies:

  • Experimental (RCTs), and
  • Non-experimental or Observational (Cohort, Case Control Studies)

Secondary sources include preappraised or filtered research, i.e., research on already conducted individual studies. These include

  • Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs)
  • Meta-Analyses (MAs)
  • Systematic Reviews (SRs)
  • Evidence-based reviews of Secondary and Primary research
